| Jim and Clarke |

Having earned his master’s degree and doctorate from UVa, Jim has been assistant superintendent of the Henry County (Virginia) schools system, in charge of finance and operations, since 1982, and has also served as interim division superintendent. He’s a past president of the Virginia Association of School Business Officials and of the Piedmont Arts Association, and has been a director of First Federal Savings and Loan Association since 1999.
He and his wife, Clarke, a cum laude and ODK Mary Baldwin graduate with a master’s in education from UVa, live in Martinsville. Jim’s hobbies include hunting, photography, reading, “walking my Labrador retriever,” watching reruns of the Andy Griffith program and attending sports-car races at the Virginia International Raceway, not far from Martinsville, where he and Clarke live. Jim credits W&L with providing “excellent preparation” for a career in public service.
P.S.: Jim promises to bring a number of Southern Collegian issues with him in May, perhaps including this one in which he shamelessly hawked Canadian Grub whisky.
