What Some of Us Did Last Summer

cottells and stuhrkes

Corbet and Susan Bryant's sixth (and youngest) daughter, Paige, was married over Labor Day weekend in Washington, D.C., and the occasion was something of a 1968 W&L reunion. (For three days, we simply picked up where we had left off in Lexington in May.) At left, Phil Cottell, Fred Stuhrke, Polly Stuhrke and Lin Cottell. Below left, Phil and Lin on the veranda of the Daughters of the American Revolution Hall, where the recepiton took place. [Maybe most of you have drinks every day at sunset in a marble rotunda on the Mall in D.C., but I was impressed. — Ed.] Below center: Corbet and Susan. Below right: Lin and Susan over lamb chops, salmon and filet in the D.A.R. library.

Five of the Bryants' daughters are W&L alumnae. Can you imagine how his hand trembled each time he wrote yet another tuition check?

bill hart in alaska The week after the reunion, Bill Hart traveled to Alaska and cycled 60 miles on Saturday from Houston, Alaska, to Talkeetna, where he is shown (left) at the finish line. In all, he was in Alaska from May 8 to May 19, visiting Denali, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Kenai.
